About Sugarmill Woods
Sugarmill Woods is a modern country club community offering year round golf, tennis and swimming with a well established reputation as one of Florida's premier residential and recreational communities.

Created in 1972, Sugarmill Woods is the first development in the United States to utilize a concept of greenbelts, which allows nature and people to coexist together.

Keeping in step with this plan, a million trees were planted in Sugarmill Woods, maintaining a safe refuge for more than one hundred and fifty plant and animal species who make Sugarmill Woods home, including the Red-Bellied Woodpecker, Eastern Mockingbird, Great Horned Owl, Eastern Cardinal and Fox Squirrel.

The property is located very close to some of the world's best saltwater and freshwater sport fishing.

The first nine hole golf course, clubhouse, tennis courts and swimming pool were constructed in 1975. This course was designed by Ron Garl, Florida's premier golf course architect, the course has received nationwide prestige since opening day.

The next nine-hole course was completed in 1978, followed by the last nine holes in 1981.

An 18-hole golf course designed by U.S. Open Champ, Hale Irwin was constructed in 1992 along with another clubhouse and restaurant.

The surrounding Sugarmill Woods area is a natural wonderland surrounded by miles of pristine public parklands and nature preserves, which include the Withlacoochee State Forest and its hiking trails.

Additionally, the Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge, with its wide variety of birds and mangrove wildlife, Lake Tsala Apopka in Inverness is considered one of the finest freshwater fishing and boating areas in Florida. And for saltwater fishing, the world record tarpon was caught just off the coast here.

One of the largest attractions for the Sugarmill Woods area is the Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park featuring those gentle giants, the manatee.

The Homosassa and Crystal River act as a natural refuge and haven for the Florida manatee as the spring-fed waters maintain a constant 72 degrees all year round.

The manatees swim up river and make the warm waters their home all winter long.

The Crystal River and Homosassa area are dotted with manatee dive and manatee snorkel tour boats. You can go on your own manatee tour adventure.

Surrounding Sugarmill Woods you will discover no less than 30 parks, 12 golf courses, 10 marinas, 9 campgrounds, 7 rivers, 2 beaches, and a wildlife preserve. It's all waiting for you at Sugarmill Woods in Homosassa Florida.
